Partners in Design with Choose Lansing

August gave us the opportunity to welcome another amazing local organization to our popular monthly event series, Partners in Design. Each month we welcome a new design partner to our Lansing, MI showroom, where participants benefit from the knowledge, expertise, and insights from local businesses and organizations.
Each design partner is unique, so every month is an opportunity to learn something new, meet new people, and find out about amazing products and services in our local community. Our August partner was Melissa Nay of Choose Lansing.
What is Partners in Design?
McDaniels Kitchen and Bath is proud to host these fun and educational monthly events in our Lansing, MI showroom. We welcome a variety of partners from throughout our community, with the focus ranging from art to fashion, volunteering, and much more. Participants get the opportunity to learn about a local organization through an engaging demonstration and presentation by the local business or organization. Each design partner shares their journey as an entrepreneur or community volunteer, tells us about their organization, and shares a presentation in their area of expertise.
Our August Partner: Choose Lansing
August gave our participants a unique opportunity to gain insights into our favorite corner of the world, the Greater Lansing area! Melissa Nay represented Choose Lansing, which is a Destination Marketing Organization for the mid-Michigan region. Melissa serves as Choose Lansing’s Membership and Community Outreach Manager and is a Certified Tourism Ambassador.
They are a nonprofit organization that focuses on bringing visitors to the area, incorporating Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. Their focus is on promoting the area’s local attractions and hospitality industry. They want visitors to have a successful and memorable trip to our local area, and to leave the Greater Lansing area loving it as much as we do!
All About Our August Event
All the participants really enjoyed Melissa’s presentation, which was very informative and gave unique insights into all that the Lansing area has to offer. She told us about how they work with the hotels, restaurants, and the service industry to promote Lansing. They operate at a very strategic level to promote our local area, and also work with new apartment buildings and the Capital, as well as helping to coordinate conventions for the area.
Melissa surprised participants with an interesting statistic, telling us that 90% of the population in Michigan is within 90 minutes of Lansing. This makes Lansing the perfect central place for big events. Choose Lansing’s focus is on ensuring that Lansing has the right venues to host the events such as hotels, restaurants, points of interest, parking, and much more.

In September, our focus will turn to a local creative business! The Woven Art Yarn Shop, located in East Lansing, was founded in 2003 as a space featuring hand-dyed yarn, a weaving studio, and a contemporary Fiber Art Gallery. It became the Woven Art Yarn Shop after Meg Larned Croft purchased it in 2013 and brought her own vision to the space. Meg’s love of wool crafts dates back to learning to knit at the age of 9, and from there expanded into felting, weaving, and more. The shop specializes in natural, indie-dyed, and American-sourced yarns. They offer an amazing range of products, host classes and knitting retreats, support local MSU students in exploring knitting and more, and provide a welcoming community for exploring fiber crafts. We can’t wait to learn more about this gem on our doorstep!
